Bengaluru: Vivaan Sachdev from Bengaluru was crowned champion in the state Under-19 Open FIDE-rated chess championship in Kalaburagi on Sunday. He scored seven points in the eight-round event. In the girls’ section, Shriya R Revankar of Dharwad won the first place, collecting seven points from eight rounds.
Top four players from both open (Vivaan, Thejas K, Charith Bhat and Nishant D’Souza) and girls (Shriya, Prasiddhi Bhat, Disha UA and Manasa) categories will represent Karnataka in the upcoming National U-19 open and girls’ chess championship in Pune next month.
Select results (Final day): Open: Nishanth Dsouza (6.5) drew with Charith Bhat (6.5); Kumara Teja M (5.5) lost to Vivaan Sachdev (7); Omkar P Dhekane (5.5) lost to Leelajai Krishna N (6.5; Thejas K (6.5) bt Keerthan M Rao (5.5). Girls: Prasiddhi Bhat (6) lost to Shriya R Revankar (7); Disha UA (6) drew with Akshaya Sathi (6); Shriyana S Mallya (5.5) drew with Shefali AN (5.5); Gopika M (5) lost to Manasa (6); Saadiya Sultana (5) lost to Tanisha Shital Gotadke (6).
