Visvesvaraya Technological University told to hold supplementary exams
BANGALORE: In a relief to 30,000 engineering students, the high court on Monday directed Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU) to notify the date for conduct of supplementary exams (calendar) in a week’s time.
This order will benefit those students who had become ineligible for III semester BE course as they have more than four subjects to clear from the first two semesters.
Justice Ram Mohan Reddy passed the order, while modifying the earlier order, benefiting all students who are similarly placed.

The court has said that those students who take up the supplementary exam and if their status falls within the domain of carryover regulations (regulation 7.2 of VTU) after the results are announced, they can be admitted to third semester. VTU has been asked to conduct additional classes to such students as by then the regular third semester classes would be in the halfway stage.
The judge, however, refused to extend the same benefit to students who became ineligible for joining the firth and seventh semesters as they did not challenge those regulations while joining the third semester. Many of the petitioners who had approached the court were from non-autonomous colleges with 5-10 outstanding subjects to clear from the first two semesters . The students claimed that autonomous colleges conducted supplementary examinations whereas VTU did not offer similar opportunity.
Citing logistics problems , VTU said that 30,000 students and 1,300 subjects will have to be addressed if supplementary exam has to be conducted.
