Bengaluru: Hyderabad batter Hanuma Vihari will lead the South Zone team in the Duleep Trophy which gets under way next month. Opener Mayank Agarwal, from Karnataka, will be his deputy.
The team has three others from Karnataka. Manish Pandey finds a place in the squad of 15, as do opener Devdutt Padikkal and off-spinner K Gowtham. South Zone will begin their campaign on September 15 in Salem.
In Ranji Trophy, Pandey was the second highest scorer for Karnataka with 356 runs including two centuries, while Padikkal tallied 260 in four matches. Gowtham was the state’s leading wicket taker with 17 wickets. Padikkal has been included at the expense of Karnataka’s leading run getter KV Siddharth (410), who has been named among standbys.
