BANGALORE: The state government has put the brakes on the plans of chief minister Jagadish Shettar's political secretary Shankar Patil Munenkoppa to create access to his personal section by breaking a wall in Vidhana Soudha.
On Wednesday, Munenkoppa had got demolished a portion of the wall of Rooms 340/ 340A on the third floor of Vidhana Soudha. Public works minister CM Udasi told TOI the wall will be restored to its original glory and government will not allow alterations in any room of Vidhana Soudha.
Munenkoppa had asked the public works department to demolish a portion of the wall in his room to have access to his personal section. No chief minister or minister has tried to create access from their chamber to the personal section since Vidhana Soudha was built in 1956.
"The wall will be restored; it'll be done in the next couple of days," Udasi said. Though PWD officials said vaastu had nothing to do with the demolition, there are reports that the demolition was part of a plan to construct new interiors and make it vaastu-compliant.
In Hubli, Munenakopa tried to pass the buck saying he hadn't ordered the demolition but it had been done a personal secretary.
Former chief minister BS Yeddyurappa sought action against officials who allowed the demolition. "Vidhana Soudha is a heritage building. They shouldn't have done it," he said.
