BENGALURU: Residents of

Varthur

Kodi were caught offguard on Wednesday morning when the

froth

The billowing foam began plaguing commuters passing along the stretch around 9.30am and it continued for an hour, according to the residents.

“The turbulence of the

lake water

has increased after recent rains, following which the frothing has intensified. On Wednesday, while I was travelling to office, there was froth on the Whitefield main road. It felt as though I was driving along a snow way, but one with a bad smell,” said Shalini Bhat, a techie with a private company.

“Whenever it rains froth fills the entire lake and it is accompanied by a terrible smell. We cannot even sit at home,” said Krishna Priya, a homemaker.

Members of Varthur residents welfare association said a nearby STP has a capacity of treating 190 million litre per day, but only 35mld is being treated now. “The authorities concerned should divert this sewage through underground drains to resolve the problem,” said a member.

Officials from BDA, the custodian of the lake, were not available for comments.
