BANGALORE: The Karnataka High Court on Monday dismissed the petition filed by Syeda Akhtar, vice-chancellor of Karnataka State Women University.She had challenged the communication sent by the Justice M P Chinnappa Commission to frame charges against her."Justice M P Chinnappa Commission is bound to consider the report of Justice S R Venkatesh Murthy and for framing charges, it is not necessary to conduct a pre-hearing as those were charges and not findings.
The petitioner can deny or admit it," the division Bench headed by Chief Justice Cyriac Joseph observed.
"There is no illegality in appointment of the commission and if the petitioner makes a written request, the government will give the copy of report," the Bench said, before dismissing her plea.Akhtar wanted a stay on further proceedings of the commission and quashing of the proceedings of two commissions of inquiry appointed earlier under retired judges, Justice Venkatesh Murthy and Justice P S Kulkarni.Justice Kulkarni had sought to relieve himself on health grounds. Later, Justice M P Chinnappa was appointed to probe the charges of financial irregularities, recruitment scandal and other charges.
