Upendra launches political party

Bengaluru: Cine actor Upendra launched his Karnataka Prajnavanthara Janata Paksha on Tuesday with a filmi flourish. He made mediapersons sit on the dais while he stood among his supporters and answered questions over the utopian idea behind his party.The acclaimed Sandalwood actor spoke at length of a philosophical outlook to his forray into politics, and said he was only creating a platform for like-minded people to join him against the “fight all that is wrong in today’s society”.He said, “I’ve made an effort; now, people need to make an effort to shake up things. The platform has been created by me and am ready to join hands with all like-minded people towards changing the society for the good,” he said.Asked whether the party has a vision or a plan, Upendra said it was just the beginning of things and there was a long way to go from here. “My movies are for the intelligent and my party is for those who are aware,” he quipped.Upendra said the party has been registered in Mahesh Gowda’s name. “I’ll continue the party name and select candidates who are involved at the micro level in every assembly constituency,” he said.Upendra said he has no intentions of joining hands with any political outfit, before or after the assembly elections, and is looking for candidates for all 224 constituencies. “I’ll get a sworn affidavit from all those who will contest with me on my party symbol and name that they will not change their party loyalties. I’ll share this with the people,” he added.
