BENGALURU: Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw on Tuesday highlighted the rapid development of a semiconductor ecosystem in India virtually speaking at the inaugural session of Supercomputing India 2025, first of its kind conference to chart the future of High-Performance Computing and its convergence with AI and quantum technologies.
“Within a short timeframe of four years, we have been able to attract significant investments in fabrication as well as in assembly–testing–manufacturing units, including 10 units of which four have started pilot production. Others are in various phases of design and construction simultaneously. Our design teams today are designing the most advanced 2 nanometer (nm) and 3 mm chips,” he said. “We would like to convert or rather augment our solution, and services based IT industry with a product-based technology industry in this new world of AI,” he added.
He also underlined India’s full-chain digital public infrastructure noting that digital payments via UPI have become ubiquitous and exceed major international brands in scale. “We are also one of the largest 5G networks in the entire world. With this kind of digital infrastructure, technology practically reaches every citizen in every nook and corner of the country,” the Minister said.
The five-day conference has been organised by leading HPC centres in India in collaboration with partners and supported by National Supercomputing Mission (NSM) at Manipal Academy of Higher Education. Hemant Darbari, mission director, NSM speaking at the conference said that the upcoming National Supercomputing Mission (NSM) 2.0 aims to meet advanced computing demands in various sectors such as healthcare, agriculture, climate, and more, with a vision for India to achieve self-reliance and scientific excellence.
