Uniform civil code will equate Muslim womenwith men: Himanta
Bengaluru: Lauding the poll promise of the BJP to implement the uniform civil code (UCC) in Karnataka, Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Monday said it will make Muslim women equal to their male counterparts in the state.
He was talking to TOI on the sidelines a BJP interaction with northeast Indian voters in BTM Layout assembly constituency. According to a functionary, there are 4,000 such voters in BTM Layout segment alone and one lakh in the city.

Sarma was confident that the community would back the party as their family members were also BJP supporters back home.
“Once Karnataka has the uniform civil code, women will have legal rights and become equal citizens with their male counterparts. This is long-due social justice which we will deliver this time. The Citizenship Amendment Act is already passed and it is just a matter of adoption of the rules. Once we do that you can have a National Register of Citizens which will be foolproof,” he said. Referring to Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge comparing Modi to a snake, Sarma said: “Modi is a snake when it comes to Congress’ corruption and he will definitely bite them. They should be ready for it.”
