Two-wheeler movement banned on NICE Road during night, speed limit restricted for all vehicles
BENGALURU: In a major step to prevent the accidents on NICE Road the city police have banned the movement of two-wheelers on NICE Road during nighttime and also set the speed limit for all vehicles for the first time ever since the NICE Road was opened for motorists in 2008. The restriction came into force from Friday itself.
Police Commissioner B Dayananda issued a notification on Friday stating that the movement of two-wheelers is banned from 10 pm to 5 am every day until the next notification. The cops had observed that accidents involving two-wheelers were more frequent during the nighttime.
According to the notification, it is observed that fatal and non-fatal accidents are happening on NICE Road due to overspeeding, rash, and negligent driving/riding of vehicles. Every year, there is an increase in deaths and injured persons. Though there are LED signboards indicating the speed limit, there is an increase in accidents. Despite other measures to prevent accidents, they have continued to happen. Senior officials of the police department had raised concerns over the issue and requested the commissioner to set a speed limit.
The NICE Road connecting Kengeri, Kamakshipalya, Jnanabarathi, and Byatarayanapura is a stretch of 23.5 km. The road connecting areas Talaghattapura, KS Layout, Hulimavu, and Electronics City is a 21 km stretch.
Apart from overspeeding, another reason for the increase in accidents is the violation of lane discipline. According to the statistics available with the city traffic police, since 2022, around 296 accidents have been reported on NICE Road. Around 92 of them are fatal accidents and 204 are non-fatal accidents, the notification stated.
Senior traffic police officials had requested the issuance of a notification limiting the speed limit on NICE Road, as during the investigation of the accidents, it was found that the negligence of drivers and the absence of a speed limit set on the road are the main reasons for accidents. Hence, the notification has been issued under section 115 of The Motor Vehicle Act, 1988, and section 3 of Karnataka Traffic Control Act, 1960.

The Police should crack down on heavy / slow-moving vehicles blocking the fast lanes at the same time and refusing to allow others to pass them. Let them have spot fines for such arrogant drivers.Read allPost comment
