BENGALURU: Two of the three youths who allegedly assaulted Lloyd Nehemiah, 54, causing his death two days later, are sons of the deputy superintendent of police (DSP), Bhubaneswar State Crime Records Bureau, Keshab Kumar Samantray, HAL police probing the matter said.

While the DSP's younger son Anirudh Samantray, 28, was picked up in Delhi on Thursday and is being brought to Bengaluru, his elder son Basudev Samantray, 34, a project manager with a construction firm, has been arrested. Basudev's friend Abhishek Singh, 31, who is software engineer at a private firm, has also landed in police net. Basudev and Abhishek were on Thursday produced before a court that remanded them in five-day police custody.

Lloyd, brother of Col David Nehemiah serving in Kashmir and resident of Vignan Nagar, died on Tuesday, two days after he was allegedly assaulted by his three neighbours for objecting to the loud music they were playing.

On Thursday, Lloyd was laid to rest.

DCP (Whitefield) S Girish confirmed to TOI that the brothers are sons of the DSP. He said Anirudh who was picked up from Delhi is an advocate working with an MNC firm in the national capital. Anirudh was on leave and in Bengaluru to attend the naming ceremony of his brother's kid. After the event, they were partying. The probe found that they were playing loud music in the car after refuelling the vehicle at a petrol bunk in the wee hours of Sunday.

Police said Anirudh was also injured in the fight and his finger was allegedly bitten by Lloyd.

Anirudh will be produced before a court after he arrives in the city; he had come to Bengaluru on a return ticket. Police said he was not absconding but was on a planned trip.

False narrative being peddled about my sons, says DSP

DSP Keshab Kumar Samantray told TOI that a false narrative was being spread about his sons. "In reality, it was Lloyd who started the fight over the issue of music, saying his mother was critically ill. He started abusing Anirudh. He is the one who first hit my sons and not them. A counter-complaint was also filed in HAL police station and an FIR registered," he said.

Samantray claimed that Lloyd's death had nothing to do with the incident that occurred two days earlier.
