BENGALURU: With just 24 hours left for polling in 14 constituencies of Karnataka, several businesses are offering rewards for voters’ participation in the democratic process Friday.
Over 1 crore people are eligible to cast votes in Bengaluru. To encourage them to exercise their right, several hotels, pubs and taxi aggregators announced discounts, freebies and free rides. They will have to show their inked index finger to avail the benefits. This is not the first time such initiatives have been announced.
Nisarga Grand Hotel on Nrupatunga Road is offering free butter dosa, ghee rice, and a beverage to voters on polling day.
Deck of Brews, a resto-pub in Bellandur, is offering free mug of beer and discounts to voters who visit it on April 27 and 28. Its owner Prafulla Raya told TOI, “We want to reward voters who have participated in the election and contributed to the nation’s development.”
Another chain of pubs, SOCIAL, has introduced a special initiative across its outlets by issuing special bills with a message encouraging people to vote. Guests who bring back these bills after voting and show their inked fingers will receive a 20% discount on their meal. This offer is valid for one week from the date of voting in respective cities, said Divya Aggarwal, chief growth officer at Impresario Entertainment & Hospitality Pvt Ltd which owns SOCIAL.
Taxi aggregator Rapido has announced free auto and cab rides for differently abled and senior citizen voters in Bengaluru.
“We are undertaking this initiative to ensure that every voter in Bengaluru, Mysuru, and Mangaluru can successfully fulfil their duty by casting their vote... We want to specifically ensure that differently-abled and senior citizen voters have equitable access to exercise their democratic right,” said Pavan Guntupalli, Rapido’s Co-founder.
Metro services extented BMRCL said Namma Metro services will be extended on April 26. The last trains from all terminal stations such as Nagasandra, Challaghatta, Silk Institute, Whitefield (Kadugodi) will leave at 11.55pm. The last train from Majestic interchange to all four directions will leave at 12.35am (April 27).
