TRP manipulation: TV serial producer among 5 held in Bengaluru

BENGALURU: A TV serial producer, who fudged Television Rating Points (TRPs) leading to losses in crores accruing to ad firms and private channels, has been arrested.
Central Crime Branch (CCB), Bengaluru cyber police have arrested five persons, including producer Raju "for cheating" (in TRP report) after TRP rating company BARC officials complained to the cyber police regarding "manipulated TRP ratings".
The accused - Raju, Madhu, Suresh, Jemsy and Subhash - allegedly twisted the TRP report as per their wish from many months due to which many advertising companies and private channels lost crores of rupees.


Investigations revealed that the accused had installed TRP machines and created artificial TRP ratings.
The gang would bring many TVs where it had located the TRP mechine and changed the channels to hike the TRP of any programmes/channels.
