BANGALORE: Bangaloreans could well get better civic amenities if corporators imbibed the lessons at the two-day training programme which concluded on Saturday.
The elected corporators of the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) appeared happy with the sessions held to guide them on behavioural skills, civic administration, solid waste management, public participation and related topics.
One thing was clear — corporators had come together to work for a better Bangalore. Kavitha Raj, corporator of Singasandra, feels the training will help her improve the quality of discussions in council meetings. "There was no demarcation on party lines. During the group discussions, we got to know each other. We made a presentation on 'How should our ward be?'. We gave suggestions to equip each ward for the development of the city," said Kavitha.
"I am an artist and this is my first leap into politics. It helped many first-timers like me learn about the nuances of administration in local governments and people's participation in ward works," she said.
The corporators were divided into four groups and had group discussions on solid waste management, property tax collection, administration of wards and BBMP, and resource mobalisation. About 85% of corporators took part in the training.
R Sampath Raj, corporator of DJ Halli, said the group discussions helped them think of solutions for problems of the city.
