Bengaluru senior executive ends life after sending ‘wife harassment’ alert to NGO
BENGALURU: An automobile company executive was found hanging in his apartment at Munnekolalu, Marathahalli, in the early hours of Monday. He left behind a 24-page death note explaining how domestic issues, including eight police complaints against him by his wife and others, had driven him to the edge.
The deceased is 34-year-old Subhash Atul from Uttar Pradesh and a director-level executive in the company.
The incident came to light when Atul sent an email late Sunday night to an NGO, advocating the cause of men facing domestic violence and related issues. The email, which indicated his intent to end his life, prompted the NGO to act immediately. Concerned staff alerted the police control room, sharing details of Atul's message. Acting on the tipoff, cops reached Atul's apartment, broke open the door and found him dead.

A chilling scene awaited the officers: An A4 sheet glued to Atul's chest bore the words — ‘Justice is Due.' Further investigation led to the discovery of a detailed timetable and a brief note pasted on a cupboard. Written in English and Hindi, the instructions provided step-by-step guidance on what he had to do in the days leading to his death and what had to be done later. The timetable mentioned tasks like chanting prayers, organizing his belongings and sending emails to key recipients, including courts and his workplace.
Atul described alleged harassment by his wife and others, detailing multiple criminal cases filed against him, including a domestic violence complaint. The note also contained a poignant request to the NGO, asking them to support his parents and loved ones if possible.
According to the timetable, he had planned to upload a video, return his laptop along with charger and car to his office, and delete biometric data from his phone. But it could not be verified if he had done these things.
Police have contacted Atul's parents, who were expected to reach Bengaluru by Monday evening. They have requested that no formal investigation begin until they file an official complaint.
A senior police officer remarked, "His email to the NGO highlights the mental and emotional trauma he was going through. Further steps will be taken after his family provides their statement."
