Woman assaults cop, arrested

Bengaluru: A 37-year-old woman was arrested after she allegedly assaulted a traffic police officer near the ESI junction in Indiranagar Thursday morning.
Constable Sharath KA, attached to JB Nagar traffic police station, said in his complaint that he saw Sonam Garg, a resident of Indiranagar and a native of Rajasthan who was riding a two-wheeler, quarrelling with another motorist. Before he realised what was happening, she stopped next to the officer, who was clearing traffic, and abused him.
Sharath said as he tried to calm her down, she assaulted him, snatched the vigil guard, tore the nameplate from his uniform, and created a ruckus.
People at the spot stopped the woman. Sharath called the police helpline 112 and a Hoysala patrol team rushed to the spot. But she continued to assault him in front of the Hoysala staff and kicked him. She also tried to take his body-worn camera away before cops detained her.
A senior officer said, "She has a habit of abusing police. She always creates some sort of nuisance."
A case was registered against her under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) sections 115 (voluntarily causing hurt), 132 (assault or criminal force to deter a public servant from the discharge of his duty), and 352 (intentional insult with intent to provoke a breach of peace). She was produced before the court and granted bail.
