it is unfortunate that the government has allowed incidents such as the massacre of dalits in kambalapalli, firing against farmers in channapatna and incidents of police torture to occur without taking preventive action, they said. ``this is our last warning to the government not to let such incidents recur. police stations have become torture chambers and people have lost faith in the police. the government has no control over police officials,'' they stated. anjanappa was arrested on september 26 based on a complaint filed by his uncle and the police are reported to have repeatedly tortured him. narrating the incident, bacche gowda said sub-inspector subramani had spread terror in nandgudi and had arrested 140 innocent people in the last one year. the national human rights commission and the courts would be approached to seek redressal. anjanappa, who was present during the press conference, explained how he was tortured in the police cell. ``i was forced to drink arrack, my nails were removed and i was beaten badly by the police,'' he said.
