BANGALORE: It was a day of celebration and show of gratitude. It was a day to show respect, honour and greet the teachers.
Teacher''s Day was observed across the city on Sunday and Monday. Apart from cultural programmes and functions to honour distinguished teachers in several institutions, young children at Indus International School greeted their gurus with gifts and flowers on Monday.
Marianne, a fifth standard student of the school said: "Teacher''s Day is the only occasion for us to express solidarity and love for our teachers.
It was a great experience to see children from different classes creating surprise gifts for their teachers."
At Surana College, a ‘Gurvandana'' was organised in honour of three distinguished teachers. Former director of NIMHANS, Dr R.M. Varma, Former VC of Mysore University and member, UPSC, Dr P. Selvidas, and Prof L.S. Seshagiri Rao, professor of English, were honoured on Monday. Surana college principal Prof K.E. Radhakrishna said, "We decided to honour them since they are seen as a role model for young teachers and students."
Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences celebrated the day by felicitating six distinguished healthcare professionals: Dr D.G. Benakappa, Dr M.S. Narayana Rao, Dr A. Ananthachar, Dr S.S. Adi, Prof M. Malshmana and Usha M. Joshi.
