Plan to take the weekend off? Hang on, it's time for The Interview. Written by award-winning actor-director Siddharth Kumar and directed by
Akarsh Khurana, this play marks the new season at Jagriti.
"We chose this play for the season because the script is relevant to the Bangalore audience and is reflective of youngsters holding their resumes, awaiting their turn to be interviewed," says Vivek Madan, actor-director at Jagriti.
It's young, contemporary, action-packed and overflows with dark humour.
The Interview
At Jagriti from February 10 to 26
Tuesday to Saturday: 8pm
Sundays: 3pm and 6.30pm
When emotion is humorous, the mood is psychedelic. The Light Surgeons are on their first Indian tour with their visual artistry Super Everything and LDN-Redux. Founded by artist and director Christopher Thomas Allen in East London in 1995, The Light Surgeons are a pioneering collective of designers and filmmakers who operate in the grey area between club visuals and film. They've been the backbone of great performances, including The
Rolling Stones, U2, Fat Boy Slim, Chase and Status. What got Allen into the act was a desire to do something far more focused, beyond the club culture. "When you do visuals and work with DJs in clubs it can be a lot of fun; you end up producing a lot of visuals. But after you've done that for a number of years, it's only natural that you want to work with a band," says Allen. "We've been with different bands over a long time and that's honed the kind of way we work. We have different tracks and themes for each track."
Bringing this visual impact to India is The Light Surgeon's LDN-Redux, an audio-visual journey. "It's an anthropomorphic portrait of the city through a 24-hour cycle that explores this idea of the city as an organism," explains Allen.
The Light Surgeons are also showcasing Super Everything, a new live cinema project commissioned by the British Council last year. "It was created in collaboration with a group of Malaysian musicians and visual artists. The project explores the themes of identity, ritual and place through a journey across the Malaysian landscape," Allen says.

Where there's humanity, there's coming together of nature and all its wealth for a better world. In a call to urbanites to grow their own future, the Malnad Mela's theme this year is Urban Food Gardens through interactive sessions with the Garden City farmers. The mela brings the natural richness of Malnad along, through an initiative of Vanastree Collective, headquartered in Sirsi. "Malnad has a strong culture of wild and domestic home gardens. This mela brings a plethora of products, ranging from herb mixes to kashayas, kokams and natural colours for Holi, all made by the indigenous people of Western Ghats," explains Sunita Rao, founder trustee, Vanastree.
