Police seized Aditya's electric scooter. Aditya is a first-semester mechanical engineering student at a private college in TC Palya, while Akshay Kumar, who had failed in II PU, had joined a private college to continue his studies, police said.

Police said they took blood samples from the duo to examine whether they were under the influence of alcohol or drugs at the time of the incident. According to a video recorded by a passerby on his mobile phone, Aditya was riding the scooter, and Akshay, who was sitting behind him, lit the crackers. He later threw them on the busy Hennur main road. Police said the incident took place on Thursday night.

"The video went viral on social media, and netizens condemned the act, saying the two were putting other road users at risk. A case was registered by Hennur traffic police. With the help of the scooter registration number, we traced Aditya on Friday. He led us to Akshay," an investigating officer said.

Traffic cops penalised Aditya for rash and negligent driving and riding without a helmet. Then, they transferred the case to Hennur law and order police. "We arrested both of them under section 285 (danger or obstruction in a public way or line of navigation) of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita," police said.
