BANGALORE: A software engineer riding pillion died on the spot, while her colleague escaped with minor injuries after their two-wheeler rammed a bridge wall on NICE Road, near Kengeri, early on Saturday.
Nutan Patak, 26, was a native of Chhattisgarh and a resident of HSR Layout. The accident occurred around 4.30am when Nutan and Deepanjan Das were riding towards a coffee shop on Mysore Road.
They were employees of a firm at Manyata Tech Park.
Police said Deepanjan could get an ambulance only by 5.30am, almost an hour after the accident.
Deepanjan, who was riding a Royal Enfield Bullet, told Kengeri police that he rammed the bridge wall near the railway overbridge. "Deepanjan was overspeeding on the wrong side of the three-lane road when the Bullet rammed the bridge wall," traffic police said.
Due to the impact, Nutan was tossed in the air and sustained serious head injuries when she fell on the parapet of the bridge. "Deepanjan couldn't get any vehicles to shift her to hospital. He dialled a helpline and got an ambulance service number. An hour was lost waiting for the ambulance," police added.
