BENGALURU: A software engineer couple is in trouble for allegedly using a police case to threaten and silence their friend’s demand to return Rs 37 lakh, taken as loan to build a house.
Vivekanagar police registered a case against Harish Tinku, 38, and his wife Shylaja, 35, residents of Hennur, east Bengaluru, and against her father Vashikaran following a complaint by software engineer Gautham S, a resident of Pattanagere near Rajarajeshwari Nagar, west Bengaluru.
The trio had allegedly harassed and threatened Gautham not to ask for his money. “The victim stayed in Viveknagar till 2014 and he became friends with Shylaja.
She took Rs 7 lakh as loan in 2014 to build a house and in 2017, she along with her husband and father, took Rs 33 lakh for house construction. But they allegedly paid back only Rs 3 lakh and did not return Rs 37 lakh and threatened him with a police case if he demanded money,” a police officer said.
The couple filed a case against Gautham in June with Hennur police alleging that Gautham was blackmailing them with their nude pictures. Gautham had obtained bail in that case and demanded his money back.
The couple allegedly threatened him with more police cases and also used abusive language. The victim eventually filed a complaint with Viveknagar police.
Cops said they registered a case under IPC section 420 (cheating), 506 (punishment for criminal intimidation), 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace), 406 (punishment for criminal breach of trust) and read with 34 (acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention).
