BENGALURU: A 22-year-old murder suspect was shot at by police on Wednesday morning near Chikkajala when he allegedly attacked them in a bid to escape. Manoj alias Kencha of Yelahanka was wanted in connection with the murder of Youth Congress leader Arun Kumar in Yelahanka on Sunday night.
Action unfolded when cops, acting on a tipoff about the murder suspects, intercepted a car in which Manoj was travelling with Byatarayanapura resident Manje Gowda, who allegedly masterminded the murder of Kumar following a financial dispute between the two.

When Manoj attacked two constables, inspectors Manje Gowda from Yelahanka police station and B Ramamurthy from Vidyaranyapura opened fire in self-defence and injured the suspect in his hand and leg.
Kumar was hacked to death near Allalasandra Gate when he was returning with friends after watching a movie.
Kumar allegedly ran an illegal finance business and Manje Gowda was one of his agents. Arun had abused Manje Gowda in public for failing to pay interest and for not returning the principal amount on time.
Manje Gowda had roped in Manoj to eliminate Kumar, police said.
