Niharika Reddy’s splendid show, Mounts Club defeated Beagles Basketball Club comfortably 68-53 to emerge triumphant in the Mathru Cup basketball championship for women at the Sree Kanteerava stadium courts here on Tuesday.
The two teams went into their final Super League match with two wins apiece. However, it was Mounts who showed more intent.
With Niharika in the zone and Lopamudra (14 points) and Kruthika Lakshman (9) playing their supporting roles well, Mounts called the shots from the get-go.
Niharika, who scored a game-high 22 points, helped Mounts take a handy 40-32 lead at half-time. The motley crowd expected a fightback from Beagles, but Mounts didn’t give them any room and won the match with plenty to spare. Mounts’ Niharika was adjudged the player of the match. Sanjana, who played a significant role for Beagles right through the event, emerged the player of the tournament.
While the winners took home a cheque for Rs 50,000, Beagles had to be content with Rs 30,000. In the other Super League match, DYES, Mysore, outclassed Rajmahal BC 75-42 to finish third.
