Bengaluru: The stray dog census is set to kick off on Tuesday and will be completed in 14 days, BBMP officials said. The last exercise was held in 2019 and the total number of stray dogs in the city was over 3.1 lakh.
The Palike’s animal husbandry department has readied 100 personnel — to be part of 50 teams — to conduct the census between 6am and 8.30am every day.
Officials said the census will be useful in planning for animal birth control, as also effectiveness of the programme. The Palike has deployed 30 members from the animal husbandry wing for the exercise along with 70 from the state animal husbandry department. BBMP will pay Rs 5,000 to each member as honorarium. tnn
