Karnataka accounted for two National Games records on Day 2 of the swimming competition in Rajkot on Monday. In the women's 200m breaststroke event, Karnataka's S Lakshya touched pad in a record time of 2:42.63 to bag the gold. The youngster had earlier broken the Games record in the heats, stopping the clock at 2:54.96. She pushed fancied Chahat Arora of Punjab to the second spot, while another Karnataka swimmer Harshitha Jayaram (2:45.27) completed the podium.
The 4x100 metres medley quartet of Ridhima Veerendra Kumar, Manavi Varma, Tanishi Gupta and Nina Venkatesh were a cut above the competition as they won gold in a record time of 4:27.78.
They bettered Maharashtra's time of 4:32.38 recorded in the previous edition of the Games in Kerala.
Tennis teams in doubles finalsThe men and women's tennis teams made it to the doubles finals. In the semifinals in Ahmedabad, Adil Kalyanpur and Prajwal Dev overcame Sivadeep Kosaraju and Ananth Mani Muni of Andhra Pradesh 5-7, 6-3, 10-6. In the corresponding event for women, the pair of Soha Sadiq and Sharmada Balu breezed past the Haryana duo of Sandeepti Singh and Rithu Ohlyan 6-2, 6-1.
In the singles events, Prajwal and Manish G advanced to the last-four stage in contrasting fashion with the latter staging an upset victory over fourth seed Karan Singh of Haryana 3-6, 7-5, 6-2 after dropping the first set, and Prajwal breezing past Abhinav Sanjeev of
Tamil Nadu with a 6-4, 6-2 win. Sharmada Balu overcame Paavani Pathak of Telangana 1-6, 6-3, 6-1 to make it to the women's singles semis.
Karnataka edge past GujaratKarnataka pipped Gujarat 2-1 in their opening football league fixture in Ahmedabad. For Karnataka, Sudheer Kotikela opened the scoring in the fourth minute, while Sathish Kumar (10th minute) doubled the lead. For Gujarat, Parmar Dharmesh struck in the 52nd minute. Karnataka face Punjab next.
