Soon adventure seekers can zipline over picturesque Cauvery river
BENGALURU: If the state
Naveen Kumar, joint commissioner, department of tourism, told TOI the project will provide a first-of-its-kind government facility in the state. “We have floated tenders to select consultants for development of zipline at Chunchanakatte. Bids will be opened in the third week of December, following which a detailed project report will be prepared,” he said.
Sources in the department said there will be twin lines 400m and 300m long, which will allow adventure-seekers to slide through the valley. The installation of the ziplines will take at least three months once the groundwork begins. The department is also developing other infrastructure like a cafeteria and accommodation for visitors who want to stay back, added a source.
Located about 200km from Bengaluru and 55km from Mysuru, Chunchanakatte has a 65-ft-high and 400-ft-wide water cascade. The river divides into two cascades at the falls only to join again downstream.
Other famous ziplines
Rishikesh and Mussoorie in Uttarakand, Neemrana in Rajasthan, Kerwa dam in Madhya Pradesh and Dawki in Meghalaya are some of the famous ziplining sites in India.
Push for cable car project at Nandi Hills
After failed attempts to get bidders to build a ropeway at Nandi Hills, the tourism department has floated tenders once again to get consultants to provide services for the project. The project, proposed about 32 years ago by veteran actor Shankar Nag, has not taken off though successive governments promised its implementation.
Similarly, tenders have been floated for installing ropeway at Gaganachukki and Bharachukki waterfalls in Shivanasamudra, Chamarajanagar district.
