Shiva lingas stolen from temple

Chintamani (Chikkaballapura): Two Shiva lingas were stolen from Tapateswara temple at Kundanahalli in Chintamani taluk, 75km from Bengaluru.
Chintamani tahsildar Sudarshan Yadav said the temple is situated on rocky terrain and there is no approach road. The priest used to offer pooja to the lingas on special occasions, drawing devotees from various places.
It was learnt that the priest offered pooja last Monday on the occasion of Karthika Somavara and went to the temple again Sunday morning. He realised the stone lingas, each measuring about two feet, were missing. The miscreants dug up the sanctum sanctorum and decamped with the lingas.
Villagers said Tapateswara temple is ancient and there is a belief among devotees that the lingas are powerful.
