BENGALURU: The woman linked to the sex CD case, which allegedly involves former minister
Ramesh Jarkiholi
, has raised doubts over credibility of the SIT inquiry into the matter and sought protection for her family.
In a video statement released on Thursday, her second so far, she said: “I know 100 per cent that my parents would not have filed a missing person’s complaint on their own because they know their daughter has not committed any mistake.”
The woman’s whereabouts have not been known ever since a sex-for-job complaint was filed earlier this month and Ramesh, while denying wrongdoing, resigned as the water resources minister.
She has now urged opposition leader Siddaramaiah, state Congress president DK Shivakumar, former assembly speaker KR Ramesh Kumar and women’s organisations to provide security to her parents. “Once I get to know about my parent’s safety, I will appear before the SIT and give my statement,” she added. The woman’s previous video, which was addressed to home minister Basavaraj Bommai, also included an appeal for police protection.
On the reasons for her doubts over the SIT probe, she claimed: “I had sent my first video statement to the commissioner’s office/SIT on March 12, but the video was made public within 30 minutes after Ramesh Jarkiholi filed a complaint on March 13. I’m unable to understand on whose side the SIT is. I don’t know who they are trying to save.”
The video was released a day after Congress legislators ramped up pressure on the government over the issue, causing curtailment of the budget session a week before schedule. Congress has demanded a high court-monitored inquiry into the case and said that Ramesh should be charged with rape.
On Thursday, Ramesh said that he had evidence on the people involved in what he claimed was a conspiracy and he would release it at the right time. “The confidence in the (video) statement clearly suggests that the woman has the backing of someone powerful and there is a conspiracy to tarnish my image. What was (her) voice then and what is it now,” he said.
The former minister suspects that a “mahanayaka” (big politician) is involved and he will reveal the name only after confirming the details. On the three-day Congress protests that disrupted proceedings of the budget session, he said: “Until a few days ago, I had a lot of respect for all leaders, especially Siddaramaiah. I don’t know why he’s pressing for a rape case against me. I’m shocked; I don’t know why he is saying it.”
Bommai and women & child development minister Shashikala Jolle said that the SIT was conducting an impartial probe and was ready to provide protection to the woman and her parents.
