bangalore: union urban development minister anant kumar on monday said that his ministry was ready to share one-third of the total cost of the metro railway project for bangalore city. participating in a function to inaugurate the second coaching terminal at yeshwantapur railway station here, he said a survey had already been made by rail india techco economic services (rites) which said rs 960 crore was needed for the project.
the survey had explained that the city railway station could be connected to 64 stations through an intro-modal transport system. inaugurating the terminal, union minister of state for railways o. rajgopal also endorsed the views of kumar about the metro railway for city. he said the railways had project proposals sanctioned rs 30,000 crore of which only rs 10,000 crore worth of projects were implemented. other projects, had been delayed due to paucity of funds. rajgopal said by 2002-03 additional funds will be provided to ensure that the new terminal was ready in all respects. various new railway lines such as kittur-harihar, bangalore-satyamangala and hassan-bangalore were under various stages of completion, he added. rajgopal said the yeshwantpur-howrah train would be started after completion of pit line by the end of this year. the cable stayed bridge near krishnarajapuram would be also be completed during this year, he added.
