School teacher held for raping Class 8 student in Kolar

SRINIVASAPUR: A teacher at a private school has been arrested for allegedly repeatedly raping a minor student in Srinivaspur taluk of Kolar district. The matter came to light when doctors told her parents she was pregnant.
Gownipalli police arrested the teacher - Shivakumar, 39 - under various provisions of the Pocso Act.
According to police sources, the accused has been working as teacher in the school for the past six years.Though he was teaching primary classes, he befriended the class 8 girl and allegedly raped her repeatedly after school hours. The incident came to light when the girl complained of stomach pain on Friday and her parents took her to the local health centre from where she was referred to Chintamani. The next morning, her parents took her to government hospital at Chintamani where it was disclosed she was pregnant. The girl later revealed Shivakumar had raped her.
Soon, the parents rushed to the school and complained to the authorities. They later lodged a complaint with Gownipalli police. The accused was arrested from Madanapalle in AP on Saturday.
