, his disgruntled brother and party MLA, newly inducted Congress minister Satish Jarkiholi spent the whole of Wednesday trying to get in touch with him, but in vain. Ramesh, who was dropped from the cabinet, has gone incommunicado since Tuesday.

Ramesh, an influential leader in Belagavi district, had threatened to resign his MLA post. He has been miffed with the party after the PLD bank elections three months ago. He is also upset with the party leadership for giving prominence to MLA Laxmi Hebbalkar and the intervention of minister DK Shivkumar in Belagavi politics.


With Lok Sabha elections around the corner, the Congress is jittery with Ramesh’s feud. Satish has been asked to bring the MLA around. Sources say Satish talked to Ramesh over the phone, but Ramesh refused to budge. And now, sources say, he isn’t taking calls from anyone.

“I will find him (Ramesh) today or tomorrow and try my best to persuade him not to resign,” Satish said. Satish said all eight Congress MLAs in Belagavi district are united and will continue to remain loyal to the party.
