Rowdy injures constable, shot in the leg
BENGALURU: A 30-year-old man, who has several cases pending against him, was shot in the leg on Saturday night after he attacked a police team pursuing him and injured a constable.
The history-sheeter,Palani alias Santosh alias Santu, a resident of Kalkere near Bannerghatta, was on the run after robbing a man and his sister in south Bengaluru earlier on Saturday night.
Police said Palani and his two associates stopped Venkatesh Prasad, a private firm employee, and his sister near Kothanur Dinne, snatched a gold chain and cash from the duo and fled. Prasad later called the police control room to complain. He also told police that Palani, whom he knew, was among the trio.
Konanakunte police inspector Dharmendra and his team began searching for the accused and received a tipoff that they were in Jambusavari Dinne. Around 11.50pm, Dharmendra and his men closed in on Palani and his associates, who started attacking the police team on spotting them.
Palani swung his machete at constable Kiran Kumar, who was the first to get down from the jeep. Inspector Dharmendra fired two rounds at Palani in self-defence. Palani received a bullet wound on his left leg and collapsed on the ground.

Constable Kiran was admitted to
Victoria Hospital
for treatment and is out of danger, said S D Sharanappa, deputy commissioner of police (south division). Palani and his two associates, Dileep and Muttu, have been arrested.DCP Sharanappa
said Palani was wanted in several cases, including murder, attempt to murder, robbery, dacoity and kidnapping.
