BANGALORE: Exasperated with dry and waterless days, Vidyaranyapura residents beat up a BWSSB water inspector on Friday when he, along with the area assistant engineer, were in the area for inspection.
Inspector Shankar Rao had barely entered the area when a group of residents __ mostly women __ began abusing him and the engineer. "They started beating and kicking him, and then began throwing stones," Rao said.
Reacting to this, BWSSB chairman P B Ramamurthy told TOI: "We urge residents not to take law into their hands.
They should help us tide over water crisis in the city. Such violence will demoralize our staff.''
PUMPING UNITS NEED POWER
The BWSSB chairman and urban development/BWSSB minister S Suresh Kumar have urged energy minister
Shobha Karandlaje not to resort to frequent power interruptions, which were affecting pumping of water.
Suresh Kumar said: "We have sought uninterrupted power to all pumping stations so that water supply is not affected. Bescom, BWSSB and KPTC must constantly meet to resolve this."
