Relief for ex-Mayor of Bengaluru and his wife

BENGALURU: The Karnataka high court on Tuesday quashed the proceedings in a criminal case registered by Bangalore Metropolitan Task Force (BMTF )against former city mayor D Venkatesh Murthy and his wife K Prabha in relation to alleged illegal allotment of bagar hukum lands.
Justice Rathnakala allowed the criminal petitions filed by the couple in 2012.
The petitioners had contended that BMTF police station was not authorized to investigate cases under section 197 of IPC(signing of false certificate) and as such there is no complaint in the first place and the BMTF police obtained permission from the magistrate based on the newspaper report alleging that the couple obtained the said lands by giving a false information.
