BENGALURU: The Karnataka Public Service Commission (KPSC), which conducts recruitments to various gazetted officers' posts of the state government, set a record on Saturday by finalising the list of successful candidates within 24 hours after the interviews concluded.

Working without a break until late in the night, over 150 plus staffers of KPSC finalised 660 candidates out of the whopping 1,974 candidates who had appeared for the interview until 6pm Friday. The final list has been submitted to the commission and will be posted on its website on Monday, said officials.

Sources in KPSC told STOI that it is for the first time in the history of the Commission that a final list of successful candidates has been finalised within 24 hours of the interviews.

KPSC secretary hails effort of staff
Senior officials of the KPSC said: "There never was a fixed time for the announcement of the final list. The commission has dragged its feet over the publication of the final list ranging from a few weeks to six months. Even though there have been instances where the list was published in a few days, those recruitments were just for 20 to 50 posts. It has never been at this level of huge recruitment!"

Suralkar Vikas Kishor, IAS, secretary of KPSC, acknowledged the achievement and said: "If not for the hardworking staffers and cooperation from the commission, this feat would not have been possible especially when we are running a recruitment process to fill up over 600 top-ranking technical posts. It would require at least a week's time just to categorise the successful candidates as per the government-approved reservation. But the staffers, against all odds, worked till late 10pm on Friday and were back again at 8am on Saturday to complete the list. Hats off to the team,"

Drawing flak from candidates and parties in the past over prolonged delays in the announcement of results, KPSC decided to turn the tables this time.

The KPSC had issued the notification way back in December 2020 to fill up the posts of 660 assistant engineers in the public works department (PWD). Close to 50,000 candidates had appeared for the initial written test and as many as 1,974 were chosen for the interview based on the merit and marks scored in the test.
