BANGALORE: For the second day running, the railways on Tuesday cancelled all trains to Chennai. Following breaches at the Vardapura - Bisanattam section where the Kanyakumari Express derailed compounded with damage to tracks on the Chennai-Bangalore sector due to heavy rains on Monday, all trains have been cancelled, a railway official said.
Several trains have been diverted towards Dharapuram, Dronachalam, Guntakal, Salem and Dharmavaram sections. Consequently, Tuesday saw a mad rush for tickets for KSRTC, TNSRTC and private bus services. KSRTC, which normally runs around 25 trips every day, has run 35 additional buses since Monday. Private bus operators in Kalasipalya and Majestic too are running full. "Since Monday night, there has been an increased demand for tickets on the Bangalore-Chennai route. The five buses we run daily are filling up very quickly," a bus operator from Kalasipalyam said.
