BENGALURU: Heavy wind and rain on Tuesday evening damaged 36 electricity poles and sent several trees crashing on power transmission lines, plunging several areas into darkness. The Bescom helpline received 6,923 calls between 6pm and 9pm, of which 4,713 were attended to.

Areas that reported power disruptions include Kormangala 8th Block, Bommanahalli, Agara, Singasandra, KR Puram, Kuvempunagar, Banaswadi, Lingarajpuram, Nagavara, Marathahalli, Whitefield, and Girinagar 4th and 6th Blocks, among others.


Bescom MD MB Rajesh Gowda said high wind speed on Sunday and Tuesday caused damage to electricity poles, wires and conductors. In Rajajinagar, a pole fell on two cars and a bike.

On Sunday, 173 electricity poles were broken, while tree branches fell on power lines in at least 410 places. Areas where poles crashed include Koramangala, BTM II Stage, JP Nagar, Mahadevapura, HMT Layout, Jalahalli, KR Puram, VV Puram, GM Palya, Jayanagar, Wilson Garden and ITI Layout.
