MYSORE: Convener of Kukkarahalli Lake protection committee K.M.Jayaramaiah here on Wednesday urged the Karnataka government to constitute lake protection committees on the lines of those in Bangalore and hand over the management of Kukkarahalli lake to one such committee.
He said such a committee constituted in Bangalore to look after the management of Hebbal lake park and Madivala lake is doing a good job.

“They have succeeded not only in protecting the lake, but have also helped in attracting tourists.
Jayaramaiah, a Botany lecturer at Mysore university, said such transparent committees headed by former bureaucrats could help protect lakes and tanks in Mysore. On the suggestion made by environmentalists to allow the flow of sewage water from city areas into Kukkarahalli lake after “wet ground passage treatment, Jayaramaiah said such an exercise is being carried out in Bangalore for harvesting rain water and preventing the flow of waste through rain water into lakes.
“This technique will not suit movement of sewage water as it contains dissolved human waste which needs recycling he said. The technique being used in Bangalore lakes for purifying rain water passing through feeder channels, contains various undissolved garbage wastes and not sewage water, he added.
