Priya clinches gold, Jesse takes silver

Bengaluru: Karnataka’s Priya H Mohan bagged the gold in the women’s 400m final after Maharashtra’s Aishwarya K Mishra, who earlier finished first, was disqualified for lane infringement at the 26th National Federation Cup Senior Athletics Championships in Ranchi on Tuesday.
Priya, who trains at the Inspire Institute of Sport, Ballari, under Cuban coach Anier Garcia, clocked 53.40 seconds against Aishwarya’s 52.57s. Sonia Baishya of West Bengal took the bronze in 53.42s. Both Priya and Sonia dipped under the Asian Championships qualifying mark of 53.54 seconds.
Karnataka added a silver in men’s high jump with Jesse Sandesh leaping to 2.18m. The gold went to Sarvesh Anil Kushare (2.22m) of Maharashtra while Swadhin Kumar Majhi (Odisha, 2.11m) won the bronze. In women’s 100m dash, Karnataka’s Daneshwari AT claimed the bronze clocking 11.69s. Srabani Nanda (Odisha, 11.57s) and Archana Suseendran (Tamil Nadu, 11.66s) won the gold and silver medals respectively.
Asian Games champ shot putter Tajinderpal Singh Toor and javelin thrower Annu Rani topped their respective events and made it to the Asian meet and Asian Games. Annu touched 59.24m while Toor heaved the iron ball to a distance of 20.42m to win the gold.
