Press Club inaugurated in Mangalore city

MANGALORE: The Mangalore Press Club mooted by the Dakshina Kannada District Working Journalists' Union, was inaugurated at the City Corporation office here on Saturday. The office of the Union was also inaugurated on the occasion.Minister for Transport, B.Ramanath Rai who inaugurated the Club, said the media played an important role in moulding public opinion.He added, people now had access to information from across the globe, thanks to the revolution in the media. Hence, journalists have a more pro-active role to play in society, he added.Rai said the demand of a full- fledged press club for the city was also being considered. He assured all necessary aid for setting up of such a press club. The office of DKWJU was inaugurated by the Mayor of Mangalore City Corporation, M. Shashidhar Hegde. Mangalore MLA, N. Yogish Bhat, Moodabidri MLA Abhayachandra Jain and Commissioner J.R. Lobo also spoke.
