Poverty drives man to kill children, self

davanagere: a father hanged his two children and committed suicide at sriramanagar on the outskirts of davanagere on sunday. however, the incident came to light only on wednesday when the neighbourers reported the matter to the police, complaining of foul smell from the house. the dead have been identified as jayanna (38), a mason and his children gowramma (5) and vittal (3).police said, jayanna failed to rope in rs 10,000 for his wife renukamma's surgery. renukamma was undergoing treatement at a hospital in hubli and the surgery was supposed to take place on thursday. jayanna's father kotrappa managed to arrange the required amount for the surgery. police feel jayanna was probably unaware and committed suicide. firm cheats consumers of rs 2 cr: monark finlease limited, located at s.m.lodge here has reportedly cheated its customers to the tune of rs 2.78 crore, the police said. many people had invested in this company as it had announced a higher rate of interest for the deposits, the police added. over 20 customers from davanagere including doctors lodged their complaints at the local police station. the incident came to light only after its md k. naganna of kurnool resigned, the police said.
