BENGALURU: A gang is suspected to be employing juveniles to steal sump lids, bicycles, shoes and other domestic valuables kept outside homes in upscale HRBR Layout, Kalyan Nagar, according to multiple FIRs filed by Banaswadi police.

The boys aged between 14 and 17 arrive at the layout between 12pm and 4pm when women and elderly residents would be resting inside homes, while others are out on work. TOI has accessed multiple CCTV footage of burglaries allegedly committed by these juveniles. Police said they have already narrowed down the search and in a week, will catch the accused.

According to HRBR 1st Block residents, about 20-25 such incidents have been reported from their area over the last three months. Police have now increased patrolling in the area.

Felix Doss, a resident, said iron lids of sumps were stolen by boys. He said surveillance cameras show that these children come in vehicles and committing theft. Sump lids are usually sold for Rs 500.

Doss said not just sump caps, many residents have complained of branded shoes, rods and other domestic valuables vanishing from outside their houses.

Police said they have already registered multiple FIRS and posted the videos of the incidents in WhatsApp groups of residents in which officers are also participants.Cops suspect some drug addicts are behind this for want of money to fund their habits.
