Police-public ties crucial: V-C

MANGALORE: Vice-chancellor of Mangalore University B. Hanumaiah on Sunday said here, the police force formed an integral part of society and it was difficult to imagine a healthy society without them.
At the valedictory function of the Duty Meet - 2003 organised by the Western Range Police, at the Police Parade Grounds, Hanumaiah lauded the efforts of the police force in keeping pace with changing times and in adapting to modern technology.
He said, the public should realise the immense sacrifices the police make — working round-the- clock and co-operate with them. The police in turn should communicate with the public and gain their confidence, he added,
Appreciating the winners of various events held as part of the two-day meet, the vice-chancellor said, dog squad training and rifle shooting were important aids. Forensic science had alao advanced, he pointed out.
Circle inspector Jayanth Shetty won the first place in footprints, while Dharmendra, SI won the second place.
Manjunath won the first place in medico-legal test followed by Jayanth Shetty. Mahadevaiah won the first place in the pistol centre fire match competition while P.N. Achar got the second place.
In revolver practice, Mahadevaiah won the first place and Ganapathi the second place.
The Dakshina Kannada police team took away the overall championship. Dharmapal Negi, inspector general of police (Western range), welcomed the gathering and Seemanth Kumar Singh, superintendent of police, Dakshina Kannada proposed vote of thanks.
SPs Dr Ramachandra Rao (Chikmagalur), Soumendo Mukherjee (North Kanara), Amrithpaul (Udupi), Roopa Diwakar, ASP, Udupi, Manjunath Anigeri, additional SP, Dakshina Kannada among others were present on the occasion.
