BENGALURU: Bangalore International Centre has started a podcast series — The River Has No Fear of Memories — to celebrate the life and works of the late writer Girish Karnad.
The introductory episode was unveiled on Friday, which was the writer’s third death anniversary. Karnad passed away on June 10, 2019 at the age of 81. The podcast series is a result of author and translator Arshia Sattar’s extensive conversations with Karnad (about his works, his life, and the concerns that had occupied him over almost 60 years as a writer and a public intellectual) in June 2019, a few days before his death.

“This podcast is a distillation of those freewheeling conversations, a short intellectual biography to celebrate the life and work of one of India’s finest playwrights and thinkers. In this series, we hear Girish talk about Kannada literature, existentialism, the making of modern Indian theatre, the art and craft of playwriting, and his life as a public intellectual,” an introduction to the podcast on BIC’s website read.
The series will be hosted by Arshia Sattar and filmmaker Anmol Tikoo, with special guests such as Vivek Shanbhag, Shanta Gokhale, and Sunil Shanbhag, who provide the context for Girish’s comments. Each episode also contains scenes from his plays read by members of Bengaluru’s theatre community.
