Chinmayee, a resident of Girinagar, spoke to the PM in Sanskrit. “It’s simple and learning it has multiple advantages. Can you explain the importance of the language on the occasion of Sanskrit week,” she asked.

PM Modi replied in Sanskrit and said, “My salutations to you ... I am extraordinarily grateful to Chinmayee for touching upon this topic. Apart from Rakshabandhan, Shravan Poornima can also be celebrated as Sanskrit Day.”

Chinmayee is fluent in Sanskrit, which is also her mother tongue. Speaking to TOI, she expressed joy over being able to communicate with the PM and ask a question in Sanskrit.

Chinmayee is a Class 10 student of Vijaya Bharathi Vidyalaya in Girinagar. She is the eldest daughter of Laxminarayana and Srividya. Her father has been associated with Samskrita Bharati, an organization working towards promoting the language, for over 30 years.

Laxminarayana is the organising secretary with Samskrita Bharati. Srividya who is a Vidushi in Sanskrit as well as Carnatic music, has been teaching music to students at home.
