According to petitioners HM Prakasha and AM Mahesh, the

night-traffic ban on Mysuru-Virajpet Road

near Matthigodu elephant camp is necessary to secure right of way for Asiatic elephants.

They claimed the expert committee constituted by the forest department in March 2018 to probe the deaths of elephants and suggest measures to prevent the same, has failed to meet even once during the last 10 months.

Apart from roads which pass through the forest, railway fences installed by the forest department and electric fences by land owners have become death traps for elephants, they added.
