shimoga: dr d.v. rao, internationally renowned photographer, will be felicitated by sagar photograph society here on august 19, the eve of world photography day, society secretary s. hanumantha jois told . rao is the founder of the society in malnad. rao who hails from dodderi village in sorab taluk of shimoga district is considered a doyen among photographers in the country and is a multi-faceted personality.
at the ripe age of 89, rao is still active and guides a number of young photographers. he is among the few who have been recognised internationally for his sensitive work and as a photo-journalist in mono (black and white) photography and for photo features. he has received a number of awards and recognition. as a practising doctor in the remote village of shimoga district, rao started as president of the federation of indian philosophy. the sagar photographic society is also conducting awareness camps to guide young photographers in shimoga and nearby districts, jois, himself a famous photographer, said. journalists join dharna:responding to the call from the district unit of the karnataka union of working journalists (kuwj), journalists and local newspaper editors observed a dharna at gopi circle. they were supporting the agitation to save the tunga and bhadra and stop mining activities in the western ghats. the dharna was organised by some institutions in the district. manjunath shet, district president of kuwj, demanded that the government consider the demand of lakhs of people who benefit from the two rivers. cultural programme: the shimoga unit of the field publicity department held cultural development programmes in coordination with the song and drama division in a number of villages in bhadravathi taluk, on the eve of independence day. artistes presented folk programmes and film shows in the villages.
