BENGALURU: A 24-year-old former Paytm employee has been arrested for allegedly siphoning off money from shopowners in the city on the pretext of giving them cashback for using the digital payment platform.


Deepan Chakravarthy quit Paytm a year ago. As part of his job, he would visit shops and convince owners to install a Paytm business application for their transactions.

Chakravarthy contacted the shopowners after he quit Paytm and convinced them to register with him to get cashback for their transactions. He asked them to pay Rs 20,000 as deposit and collected their bank account details. Later, he siphoned off money from their accounts, police said.

Chakravarthy

and gave him his bank details. Umesh learnt that 19,000 was debited from his account on December 11. He filed a cheating case on December 15.
