Passenger hides gold in jeans, caught
Bengaluru: Gold smugglers continue to explore new ways to evade customs sleuths. On Wednesday, a passenger was caught at KIA while trying to smuggle in 368 grams of gold powder hidden inside the fabric of his jeans.The passenger, who hails from Mumbai, had concealed the gold worth Rs 23 lakh in the fabric of his specially designed and stitched jeans. Sleuths said the gold was wrapped up in the portion of the fabric that fell below his knees.He was travelling from Sharjah to Bengaluru on Air Arabia flight G9-496. He landed at KIA at 3am when he was caught.

The easiest way to tackle this is to remove import duty and make Aadhaar a must for any Gold above 25k. Currently PAN is required only for >2L. Easier to contain tax evasion too, making lot more potential income tax collections to the Govt than mere import duty.
